In the case of Megyn Kelly, I can understand why it was offensive; she’s a very well educated lawyer and to be fair, she did walk away with a $65 Million Dollar pay-out — so in her case there wasn’t a financial harm.
With Roseanne though, I still feel there was a bit of wiggle room — since there was a bit of misunderstanding, at least in my view, because she did admit it was a badly researched tweet and was attempting at humour. She later made an appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast to further discuss what happened. I think she got punished too harshly for her comment.

We all make poor choices at some point, if we start breeding this culture of discarding people without any room for penance; I feel we’ll fail as a society.

In this age of trial by media, I’m not too sure what the means for people who have to live their life under a microscope.
